Basic Clubmaking Kit

Hi Jeff, I’m trying to enter into clubmaking just as a hobby, so what would be the basic tools needed (not anything fancy) to assemble a club? Thanks.
Ricardo, Oakdale, Minnesota, USA

Ricardo.

I might suggest you look at either Golfworks or Mitchell Golf. Both have beginner kits that will help you greatly starting out. Here is one example from GolfWorks - Assembly Kit.

Jeff

Ping Eye2 Reshaft

I am just trying to find out what size tip I need to reshaft my Ping Eye2 irons, and what stiff shafts you would recommend. I bought a used set, but they have the KT shaft and I can’t hit them near as far as the ZZ Lite that I tried. Thanks for your time.
Anthony, Great Mills, Maryland, USA

Anthony,

They are taper .355″. Try True Temper Dynamic Gold SL for a closer match to the ZZ Lite shaft.

Jeff

Clubhead Influence

If my Trackman numbers indicated ball speed of 150 mph on several different drivers, does the head really matter while shopping for a reshaft to increase performance?
Phil, Mandeville, Louisiana, USA

Phil,

The head’s center of gravity (CG) has a big influence on launch and spin due to its loft, face angle and CG, so the answer is definitely a big YES!

Jeff

Mizuno Shaft Change and Swingweight

I want to switch shafts in my Mizuno MP-30 irons, from True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 to Dynalite Gold SL S300. What will be the effect on swingweight?
Dean, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Dean,

Assuming they will be the same length, expect at a 2-3 point reduction in swingweight.

Jeff

Callaway Shaft Replacement

I have a Callaway Big Bertha 7 Wood with a Ladies Gems (99 Green) Shaft I need to replace. Do you have a shaft match for the item?
Bruce, Monsey, New York, USA

Bruce,

A good economical choice would be UST’s 65 Series.

Jeff
