Hello. I need some advice on shafts. I had been playing a set of Adams A4 irons in regular flex steel marked players flex and hit the ball well. Due to some nagging shoulder problems I purchased a set of Adams A 4 forged irons in graphite shafts. After a few rounds, my distance is less and accuracy off, they feel too soft (regular
Flex matrix 84). I like the A4’s and want to reshaft with steel. My profile is age 56 swing speed around 80-85 with 5 iron or driver, moderate tempo. Look forward to your advice.

David,
I might look at True Temper Dynalite Gold in R300 if you need to hit the ball higher or Dynamic Gold SL in R300 for lower ball flight.

Jeff

Hi. I found that the True Temper Release shafts were a perfect fit for my swing. True Temper doesn’t make this shaft any more. Is there another shaft that matches the Release characteristics?
Bill, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
Bill
Unfortunately no. The closest is likely the Dynalite but it is not as soft or high launch.

I’ve got a shaft that says intermediate on it but does not have anything about stiff, regular, extra stiff or anything. Can you please tell me what intermediate compares to in regards of s, r, x-s? Thanks.

Dusty,
That’s a new one to me…my guess would be that it’s regular.

Jeff

I currently hit a 10* driver with a UST Proforce 65 shaft with a mid bend point. My shot trajectory is too low. I am considering building a Snake Eyes 10.5 or 11.5 driver. Should I build the 11.5 with the same shaft, or the 10.5 with the Proforce 65 High Launch shaft (with low bend point)? Your comments?
Andrew, Naperville, Illinois, USA
Andrew,
Without knowing your launch/spin numbers, it’s hard to say. But, what I can say, is that if ball flight is too low, look to loft first as a solution. The club loft will have more influence on trajectory than will shaft. Go to the 11.5 and see what happens.

Can you effectively hardstep a shaft and still have a longer than standard length?
Tim, Pompano Beach, Florida, USA
Tim,
It depends on the raw length of the shaft, but in most cases, yes this can be done.
