I have a set of Yonex SuperADX titanium hybrid irons that were my dad’s. My nephew has sawed two off at the head ( they are probably 15 years old). I have told him that a switch to steel is a better choice he has a high swing speed, strong transition and fast tempo. Can you guide me in a good, reasonably inexpensive choice. I’m footing the bill as he is a college kid. It appears these are not a tapered hosel true? Comments would be greatly appreciated.

Shawn,
Without seeing the player swing, it’s tough to make a choice. The fact that the player is in college implies he is strong, so True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 is worth a look. The Yonex with graphite were parallel tip.

I’m trying to identify some True Temper shafts and the step profile doesn’t seem to fit anything on the Temper website. The shafts are 41″ raw length with a .370 tip. The step pattern is: 8@ 2″ and 2@ 3″. Any idea what these are?

Steve,
They may be a proprietary model done for a unique manufacturer. They are a lightweight to very lightweight model judging from the step pattern.

I have the True Temper Determinator. My question regards how reliable that device is in determining the proper shaft. On my swing I peg the meter, so-to-speak, at 26 with indicates the need for an X300 shaft. However, 5 iron distance and speed indicates a strong R or weak S. Due to some physical impairments, I tend to have an early release which necessarily slows down the clubhead speed at impact.

John,
In my opinion, the Determinator is not a good choice in today’s world. When it was first developed technology was not where it it today. Find a good launch monitor which will tell you much more than the Determinator.

I was wondering if there are any lefty component driver heads that are less than 10.5*, or at least square-faced (and not closed)? I understand cost concerns and all that, but it sometimes feels like I’m either the only lefty looking for something like this, or the only lefty using components. Thanks for any help you can give.

While i am not all that versed in who carroes what, here are some places to look:
Hireko Golf
Golfworks
Golfsmith
Wishon Golf
Bang Golf
Geek Golf
Hopefully one or more of these will help.

I have a shaft puller and it works with clubs with hosel. How do I use my shaft puller for Callaway FT drivers without hosel?
Ronald, San Francisco, California, USA
Ronald,
You need a special adapter. Look to Mitchell Golf or Golfworks for the Callaway shaft puller adapters.

Jeff
