Anthony,

They are taper .355″. Try True Temper Dynamic Gold SL for a closer match to the ZZ Lite shaft.

Dean, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Dean,
Assuming they will be the same length, expect at a 2-3 point reduction in swingweight.

Jeff

I have the Ping I3 O-Size and want to re-groove them. What type of groves are in these clubs?
Allen, Missouri City, Texas, USA
Allen,
They are square grooves, but to do the job properly, they need to be machine milled. Hand grooving tools do little else but widen the grooves, making them non-conforming.
Regards,
Jeff

I have been playing Ping Eye 2+ BeCu irons since they hit the market in the 80s. Is there any reason to believe that the shafts should be replaced based on age? Current shafts are ZZ Lite and other than sending to Ping can you recommend a shaft that offers similar performance? I am not unhappy with current set up, distance, ball flight, etc.
Leon, North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA

Leon,

The shafts will not lose their performance over time unless they rust or are bent. The closest shaft to them today is probably the True Temper Dynalite Gold.

Jeff, I am reshafting a set of Titleist 735CM irons with True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts. I already know that I need .355 taper tip. I just wanted to make sure I am purchasing the correct raw lengths. The PW & 9 iron should be 37” raw and then each iron after is .5”longer….Is this correct? Then butt trim to final lengths of PW – 35.75, 9I – 36.00, then .5” longer.

A second and slightly more difficult question. The set is currently 1 inch over length with S-300 shafts…If they were R-300 shafts I would just butt trim them down, but I think S-300’s are too stiff and cutting an inch would make them even stiffer. After the re-shaft I am under the impression that I will need to add 12 grams of weight to each head to make up for the 1” I am removing from the current length (6 swing points), bringing the clubs back to the factory swing weight of D-2….is this accurate?

Thanks.
Tony, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Tony,

Everything that you say is correct…

Regards,
