I have a set of Yonex SuperADX titanium hybrid irons that were my dad’s. My nephew has sawed two off at the head ( they are probably 15 years old). I have told him that a switch to steel is a better choice he has a high swing speed, strong transition and fast tempo. Can you guide me in a good, reasonably inexpensive choice. I’m footing the bill as he is a college kid. It appears these are not a tapered hosel true? Comments would be greatly appreciated.
Shawn, Highlands Ranch, Colorado, USA

Shawn,

Without seeing the player swing, it’s tough to make a choice. The fact that the player is in college implies he is strong, so True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 is worth a look. The Yonex with graphite were parallel tip.

Steve,

They may be a proprietary model done for a unique manufacturer. They are a lightweight to very lightweight model judging from the step pattern.

I have the True Temper Determinator. My question regards how reliable that device is in determining the proper shaft. On my swing I peg the meter, so-to-speak, at 26 with indicates the need for an X300 shaft. However, 5 iron distance and speed indicates a strong R or weak S. Due to some physical impairments, I tend to have an early release which necessarily slows down the clubhead speed at impact.
John, Springfield, Virginia, USA

John,

In my opinion, the Determinator is not a good choice in today’s world. When it was first developed technology was not where it it today. Find a good launch monitor which will tell you much more than the Determinator.

You need a special adapter. Look to Mitchell Golf or Golfworks for the Callaway shaft puller adapters.
